Edwin K Agbonyitor, PresidentEdwin K Agbonyitor,  President

Edwin K. Agbonyitor, the President of Volta Association is an accountant by profession. His lovely wife and sons, Jane, Etornam and Ekow are Edwin’s source of joy. Edwin enjoys volunteerism and has a passion for helping people. As a teenager, he worked with various youth groups. He currently teaches Sunday school and volunteers on his Church’s finance council. Since his dad, Dr. Albert Agbonyitor, introduced him to Volta Association in August 2001, he has served in a number of positions and on various committees.  Apart from the Volta Association, he is also actively involved in COGA (Council of Ghanaian Association), and serving currently as the President of CEANA (Council of Ewe Associations of North America). As a leader, he believes in being inclusive.

Doris Dzameshie is the wife of Rev. Kennedy Odzafi. She has an extensive background as an Executive Assistant. Apart from volunteering for Volta Club, she also serves as a board member in her local area’s home owners association. She believes the key to leadership is integrity and holds true to that philosophy.

 

 

 

 


Simon-Davis Nutakor, Financial SecretarySimon-Davis Nutakor,  Financial Secretary

Simon-Davis “Amey” Nutakor is the Financial Secretary of the Volta Club. He is presently the Branch Manager of the Hertz Corporation – a transportation management company in Silver Spring, Maryland. He serves on various boards and committees by providing expert advice and consultancy services on development issues. He lives in the Gaithersburg area. His hobbies include sports, traveling and socializing. He also takes keen interest in community development activities.

Afi Vodi Dua was born to pioneer members of the Volta Club, Isaac and Gladys Vodi, on November 29, 1985 in Washington, DC, USA. She started performing traditional dances in the Volta Ensemble from the age of 4. She currently has a Bachelors of Arts Degree from Frostburg State University. Afi has grown up with a strong sense of culture and community development. She aspires to continue her education by getting her Masters Degree.

Josephine Bimpeh-Aku, TreasurerJosephine-Bimpeh Aku, Treasurer

Mrs. Josephine Bimpeh Aku is a former first lady and wife of Mr. David K. Aku Snr, former Chairman of Volta Association and founding member of CEANA. Davi Sophie as she is popularly called, was born with a gift and talent of stewarship. From her youth, to her years of service as a nurse at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Ghana, to her near 25 years of service with her current employer, she has proven to be an exemplary employee. She has also served the Ewe community well as a trustworthy steward in the office of Treasurer for Volta  Association and in the Ewe churches. With no formal training in finance, her commitment and attitude of accountability is always reflected in the results for these organizations. As a pioneering member of Volta Ensemble, Mrs. Aku has also led and trained Ewe Youths in cultural performances, including the Kantata and Bobobo dances. Mrs. Aku's three children are the "apple of her eyes" and she is their virtuous mother whom they affectionately refer to as "Judge Judy".

Vincent Kosi, SecretaryVincent H Kosi, Organizing Team Member

Vincent Kosi whose middle name is Hamenu, (aka Muzenge) is a community man. Vincent was the penultimate secretary of the Ghanaian Association of Minnesota (GhanAM) and the first Chairman of the Ewe Association of Minnesota (TEAM) which became a 501(c) (3) organization within four years under his chairmanship. Vincent also was the chairman of the Ghanaian Soccer Club of Minnesota (Ghascom).
As a history major student, Vincent was part of the presentation team at the Minnesota International Center (MIC), teaching students of all levels the culture and practices of some Ghanaian societies.  As a member of the organizing team, Vincent puts his experience at the door steps of Volta club in its pursuit to make the membership mutually enjoyable to all.
